Speaking with IndieWire, Hiddleston revealed exactly where The Night Manager season 3 will pick up following the major cliffhanger season 2 leaves off on. The series star confirmed that season 3 will take place exactly where the previous season finale ended, with Pine in the jungle and no immediate rescue in sight. The actor explained how pulse-pounding this will make the premiere episode, as it happens in the wake of Roper winning, making it unclear just how Pine is going to get out of his current predicament alive. Check out what Hiddleston had to say below:
It’s a game that Roper won. He has very little in the tank, and nobody to come and rescue him. It’s an exciting place to begin.
The Night Manager is considered one of the best spy thrillers of the modern era. While season 1 was pulled from the pages of the late John le Carré’s book of the same name, season 2 features an entirely original story with the same actors and characters returning. Because of this, these new seasons of the show are able to lead into one another more directly, with there being plenty of loose threads established during season 2 for Pine and Roper to continue tying up when season 3 arrives.

Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager

Although Hiddleston’s role in the story is being threatened by his newest injury, the actor’s season 3 timeline confirmation indicates he’ll find some way out of the jungle, even with no help being offered. But, even if he does escape, nothing will ever be the same again. Roper’s level of power is unmatched now, considering he’s managed to fake his death to the wider world and his dispatched many of Pine’s allies. This includes the tragic death of Angela Burr (Olivia Coleman) in the season 2 finale.

In addition, a civil war in Colombia is now brewing, making for some more complicated political angles The Night Manager season 3 can explore. This can be done via both Pine and Roper’s stories, especially dependent on how much they intersect when the show returns. As of writing, season 3 is the last confirmed season of the show, meaning it could finally put an end to Pine and Roper’s ongoing cat-and-mouse game. Since the protagonist’s story will pick up where it left off, there are plenty of directions the show can go from that point onward. With Hiddleston having confirmed The Night Manager season 3’s timeline, it’s only a matter of waiting to see how his character’s fate will play out in the coming episodes. Although nothing is confirmed yet, the way he escapes the jungle may be what sets into motion his next steps, as he utilizes what little resources he has left to take Roper down once and for all.
