Hogwarts Legacy 2 Official Announcement Has Left Gamers Campaigning To “Save” Sequel

We may know that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is currently in development over at Avalanche Software, and we also know that it is set to “coincide” with the launch of the upcoming HBO Harry Potter show, but other than that, details remain scarce over the highly anticipated continuation of 2023’s best-selling video game. Even with the information we do know, there are inconsistencies. After all, Hogwarts Legacy took place over a century before the events of the Harry Potter books and movies that we know. However, with the upcoming television show expected to cover the same time frame as said books and movies, how would a Hogwarts Legacy sequel “coincide” with it? Unless, of course, Hogwarts Legacy 2 will fast-forward 100 years to bring us back to modern-day.

With Avalanche Software seemingly deep in development, even going as far as hiring a brand-new Community Manager, many believe that Hogwarts Legacy 2 could launch as early as 2027, which is quite an impressive feat considering it was only three years ago that the first installment was released. Nevertheless, a potential release window does not change the fact that we know next to nothing about the story, characters, or setting of Hogwarts Legacy 2. However, with rumors that it could potentially be a live-service title, many players are not happy, and have even taken to making a petition to stop the potential change. “Stop Hogwarts Legacy 2 from being a live-service,” one user shared over on r/HarryPotterGame two years ago, alongside a link to the Change.org petition. At the time of writing, the petition has garnered just 14,667 signatures and, I may not be a petition connoisseur, but I do not think that this few entries would be enough to suddenly change Avalanche Software’s mind if it was indeed planning on changing Hogwarts Legacy into a live-service title. But hey, it is an admirable effort and just goes to show that live-service titles are not what fans want, especially after the failure of some other titles in the genre such as Concord, Anthem, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Nevertheless, fans of Hogwarts Legacy may want the sequel to include a lot of content that was missing from the original, but going down a live-service path is perhaps the wrong way to go about this and, as such, fans took to the aforementioned Reddit thread to share their thoughts.

“I find it crazy that, with the recent flop of Suicide Squad, they want to double down on live-service games,” the top comment reads. “The company has to know that fans don’t like live-service games, barring the few that have succeeded like the petition mentions, but unless HL2 can give us something unique like those games, this is going to be mid. Hogwarts Legacy made a billion dollars in sales, so whatever made them think, “let’s throw away this successful model and try something we know fans don’t like?”” Another agreed, adding, “The scary part is that HL realistically couldn’t have performed better in sales and this is still happening.

WB is about to bury this franchise, again.” It is worth mentioning that neither Avalanche Software nor Warner Bros. Games has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be a live-service title, and so there is no need to panic just yet. However, if it does come to fruition, we are going to need a lot more petitions.
