Diablo 1 Remake Unites Gamers, And We Can See Why

The original Diablo is the game that started it all, and it still stands out today as one of the best examples of the genre, and arguably one of the best PC releases of all time. The demonic release came all the way back in 1997, however, and there’s no doubt that it has started to show its age, particularly if you go back and play it in 2026. Fortunately, there are much more recent options for players to sit down and enjoy instead, but at the same time, there’s always the nagging feeling that none have quite managed to recapture the magic of the first game. That said, this is the era of remakes and remasters, and a potential future where the original Diablo makes a return has fans united already.

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post citing the recent Diablo 30th Anniversary video. At the end of the production, Blizzard confirmed that they will have a major Diablo-related announcement at BlizzCon this year, with the OP speculating that it’s almost certainly going to be a remake of the original game. As you might expect, there were plenty of fans in the responses who were hoping that was going to be the case. “Diablo 1 had so much unfinished content, I really hope they make an actual remake and not a 1:1 remaster. (Just to make clear: I think was the right choice for D2, but D1 is a different game),” one comment read. While another added, “I still randomly recite the entire quest book for the halls of the blind. And the butcher! With some QoL (changes) like a run option and not storing all your items on the freaking ground with piles of 5k gold, LOL, it would be fun and nostalgic.” Others were a little less willing to get excited until the game is confirmed, with one saying, “As much as Diablo 1 is my favorite RPG of all time, and as much as a remaster would make me SO HAPPY, I don’t think we should get our hopes up, lest a potential lack of announcement lead to immeasurable disappointment.”

It certainly feels too soon for confirmation of another game in the series, so a remake/remaster could be a great way for Blizzard to keep life in the Diablo series in the meantime. Let’s just hope that, whatever the big announcement does end up being, it gives us plenty more opportunities to chop demons to bits.
