KPop Demon Hunters 2’s New Soundtrack Already Has 1 Massive Problem

Given the immense success of KPop Demon Hunters, the sequel has some big challenges to overcome, and its soundtrack, in particular, is already facing a massive problem. In addition to its extensive catalog of licensed content, Netflix has stood out for its original content, both films and TV shows. Some Netflix originals now rank among the best movies of all time, such as Roma, and in the animation genre, Klaus and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. Joining Netflix’s best animated movies is KPop Demon Hunters, one of the streamer’s biggest hits to date. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters introduces viewers to the K-pop girl group Huntrix, formed by Rumi (voiced by Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). The girls are the latest demon hunters, and they use their singing voices to create a magical barrier against demons called the Honmoon. Huntrix’s mission is complicated by the emergence of boy band Saja Boys, who are actually demons. Because of all this, KPop Demon Hunters relies a lot on its soundtrack. KPop Demon Hunters won various awards, and its soundtrack was also a massive hit, becoming the first film soundtrack to have four songs on the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 simultaneously. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack has very catchy songs, the biggest one being “Golden”, and this will be a huge challenge the sequel will have to overcome.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 Will Have A Hard Time Surpassing The Success Of “Golden”

As mentioned above, the Huntrix girls fulfill their mission of keeping demons away from the human world through their singing voices, which is why it’s perfect that they are a successful K-pop group. To their audience, Huntrix’s songs are fun and deep, and they certainly are, but they also talk about their mission, battles, and purpose as demon hunters. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack had three hit singles: “Takedown”, “How It’s Done”, and “Golden”, the latter becoming the representative song of the movie. Within the context of the movie, “Golden” is Huntrix’s most special and powerful song, as it’s made with the intention of building the Golden Honmoon, which will help them keep Gwi-Ma and its demons away. Because of this, “Golden” is the group’s most important release, and its live performance is a key moment in their story. In the real world, “Golden” was a critical success and a huge hit, and it got KPop Demon Hunters the Oscar for Best Original Song. “Golden”, then, set the bar very high for KPop Demon Hunters 2 in many ways. The lyrics of “Golden” are not exclusive to the first movie, as Huntrix will surely continue with their mission of keeping demons away and protecting the Honmoon, and Rumi’s personal struggles with her heritage are far from over. “Golden” achieved success in the real world that will be very hard for the sequel to replicate, and it will need an equally or more powerful song – lyrically and in terms of success – to match or beat the impact of “Golden.”
KPop Demon Hunters 2 Should Repeat The First Movie’s Soundtrack Secret Weapon

Plot details about KPop Demon Hunters 2 are currently unknown, as the sequel is still in its early stages of development, and it has been teased to arrive in 2029 (or possibly later). That said, it’s unknown what the approach and tone of the soundtrack of KPop Demon Hunters 2 could be, and while a big part of its success will be the lyrics to the songs, the first movie has a secret weapon that could make the sequel’s soundtrack succeed: the K-pop group Twice.

Huntrix is based on real-life K-pop groups Itzy, Blackpink, 2NE1, and Twice, and has three members of the latter group (Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung) performing a version of “Takedown.” If KPop Demon Hunters 2 can bring Twice back for its soundtrack, it will be a huge hook for the audience and can be key to its success. Still, KPop Demon Hunters 2 will need an impactful (both within the movie and in real life) song like “Golden” that fits its story, the characters’ journey, and what’s currently trending in the real music world. KPop Demon Hunters 2 has a huge challenge ahead thanks to the success of “Golden”, but with the team behind the movie being extra careful with all details and taking their time to make the movie, they will surely find a way to match or surpass what “Golden” achieved.
