Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: Every Animal You Can Hunt & Where To Find Them

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is filled with the same abundance of activities as the original game with a plethora of new improvements to make the experience more seamless, but one that you’ll be forced to engage with for reasons other than coin comes from hunting animals. Whether you’re doing it to upgrade Edward’s gear, unlock new cosmetic upgrades, or simply for more bartering options, hunting is a core part of Black Flag Resynced’s gameplay loop. While you can certainly get by relying on Black Flag Resynced’s in-game pointers to look for certain animals to hunt, there are a number of details and locations that you won’t find for yourself until much later on in the game, starting off with the best places to hunt each animal in Black Flag Resynced.
Where To Find Every Huntable Animal In Black Flag Resynced
While many gameplay aspects have recieved some massive overhauls in the Black Flag Resynced remake compared to the original, returning fans will be relieved to know that the location of each huntable animal remains largely the same as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, with the locations of each animal in the game found at the following locations:

With one of the biggest changes in Black Flag Resynced being the massiveely overhauled visuals, it can be a major hassle to locate animals in the wild with the naked eye alone, especially when hunting for smaller ones like Iguanas, Rabbits, and Hutias. To solve this, you’ll want to make use of the eagle sense mode that highlights all potential targets in red, allowing you to easily track animals from a far and even through walls. You can also save time by prioritizing islands that have multiple animals available to hunt at once, with cities like Great Inagua, Nassau, Cape Bonavista, Tulu, and Kingston being excellent choices for having at least 3 spots for animals to spawn each, which are often placed in close proximity to make your farming routes even easier. While I’ve had some success resetting animal spawns for those deeper into a large island like Cape Bonavista by fast traveling back and forth between the Jackdaw and a nearby vantage point, others didn’t respawn after successfully hunting them for some time, which is why I would recommend rotating between hunting locations if you happen to have the same issue.
Where To Find Every Harpoonable Animal In Black Flag Resynced
Aquatic animals in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced function a bit differently than their land counterparts when it comes to hunting them, as rather than having specific spawn locations, they’ll randomly appear throughout the ocean, marked by a harpoon symbol on the map. While you’ll have to check one by one to see which animal it is, I’ve found that each of the aquatic life typically spawns most frequently in the following areas and sections of the sea.
Animal
Locations
Section
Bull Shark
Eleuthera, Dry Tortuga, Gibara
Upper (easy)
Hammerhead Shark
Eleuthera, Dry Tortuga, Gibara
Upper (easy)
Great White Shark
Punta Guarico, Cruz, Castillo de Jagua
Middle (medium)
Killer Whale
Punta Guarico, Cruz, Castillo de Jagua, Contoyor
Middle (medium)
Humpback Whale
Navassa, Charlotte, Serranilla, Chincorro
Lower (hard)
White Whale

The sections highlighted in bold above are the areas where I most frequently found certain aquatic animals, but they aren’t guaranteed to spawn there each time and will require frequent checking if you’re looking for a specific one. If you’re having trouble harpooning animals in Black Flag Resynced, I would heavily recommend upgrading your fishing boat at the harbormaster in Great Inagua, especially if you’re playing on hard difficulty for activities.
The White Whale was included as an online event in the original Black Flag that could be found anywhere on the map randomly, and will be updated when confirmed after release.
While you’re at Great Inagua, upgrading the Fisherman’s Wharf will also double the amount of skins gathered from aquatic life, which can halve your farming if you’re looking for certain materials to purchase upgrades and cosmetics for Edward or the Jackdaw.
Where To Buy Animal Hides In Black Flag Resynced
While hunting for land animals in Black Flag Resynced, you might have also noticed that you’ll acquire a bone for almost every animal you kill, which serves as an invaluable resource later on in the game. If you’re missing one or two skins, you can simply purchase them upfront in exchange for these bones at any local General Store, but more exotic animals will require you to upgrade the General Store in Great Inagua in order to increase the variety of offerings sold.
Once you’ve fuly upgraded the General Store on Great Inagua, you’ll be able to purchase every simple pelt you’ll need in Black Flag Resynced, the following prices of which you can find below, which vary depending on how rare or difficult they are to hunt.
Black Jaguar Pelt — 4 Bones
Capuchin Monkey Pelt — 4 Bones
Crocodile Leather — 3 Bones
Deer Hide — 3 Bones
Howler Monkey Skin — 3 Bones
Mutia Hide — 4 Bones
Iguana Leather — 3 Bones
Jaguar Pelt — 4 Bones
Ocelot Pelt — 3 Bones
Rabit Pelt — 4 Bones
Red Howler Monkey Skin — 4 Bones
White Jaguar Pelt — 4 Bones
Wild Pig Hide — 3 Bones
Bull Shark Skin — Bones
Great White Shark Bone — Bones
Hammerhead Shark Bone — 3 Bones
Humpback Whale Skin — 5 Bones
Killer Whale Skin — 5 Bones
These aren’t the only ways to acquire animal pelts as well, as there is a small chance you can come across them while looting the square storage containers within ships or coastal towns, which commonly include trade materials like wine, rum, tobacco, etc. Considering that some locations like Isla Providencia are locked behind story progression, it isn’t a bad idea to spend a few bones if you’re missing a couple of pelts, but I wouldn’t recommend spending your bones on hides alone. Both pelts and bones can be used in certain crafting recipes and store purchases throughout Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced as well, which includes sails, crew attire, and other visual upgrades that you might want to save for instead.
