Avengers: Doomsday’s Revealed Runtime Breaks A Massive MCU Record

Avengers: Doomsday might still be five months away, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is already breaking records, with its revealed runtime surpassing a wide range of films. Marvel Studios’ slate of projects includes quite a few exciting releases in 2026. Next up is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with episodes of X-Men ’97 currently airing weekly on Disney+. There is even more coming, with shows like VisionQuest and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2. That said, there is no denying that all eyes are on Avengers: Doomsday’s cast and story. This is the first Avengers movie in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. As such, it absolutely needs to perform as well as everyone expects it to. It has the biggest shoes to fill. After all, Avengers: Endgame did a phenomenal job in closing the MCU’s Infinity Saga — Spider-Man: Far From Home was its epilogue — with an action-packed and emotional adventure that saw the heroes lose quite a few prominent names. In the MCU’s next Avengers movie, two of them return in a way, with Chris Evans back as Steve Rogers and Robert Downey Jr. now playing Doctor Doom.

The lead-up to Avengers: Doomsday’s release has been an interesting one. Marvel released four brief character-focused teasers in theaters with Avatar: Fire and Ash, but no trailer as of now. Story details are also scarce. That said, we just had confirmation of a major question related to the movie, with Avengers: Doomsday’s runtime finally revealed, and it involves an MCU record being broken.
Avengers: Doomsday Breaks A Multiverse Saga Record

Robert Downey Jr. in an Avengers Doomsday promotional video

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first tickets for Avengers: Doomsday will go on sale on Monday, July 20. Those will be for the theaters that Disney has labeled with their Infinity Vision denomination, which comes as a way of boosting premium-format screens since Avengers: Doomsday lost IMAX to Dune: Part Three. The report also revealed that the current runtime for Avengers: Doomsday is 165 minutes, or 2 hours and 45 minutes. That is subject to change, given how we are still five months away from the MCU movie’s release. That said, THR claims it can only be slightly changed due to ticket sales. Based on that reveal and the fact that Avengers: Doomsday’s final runtime should not differ too much, the next Avengers movie takes the top spot in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. It is now the longest release in this chapter of the Marvel franchise, with its 2 hours and 45 minutes standing above Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s 2 hours and 41 minutes, and Eternals’ 2 hours and 37 minutes. It makes sense that Avengers: Doomsday will be the longest movie in the Multiverse Saga, as Doctor Doom was not properly set up before it and this is a giant crossover with MCU and multiverse characters.
How Avengers: Doomsday’s Runtime Compares To The Other MCU Avengers Movies

Despite all the work it has to do to establish Downey’s Doctor Doom, bring back Evans’ Steve Rogers, and set up the multiversal conflict that brings in the New Avengers, Captain America’s Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men together, Avengers: Doomsday’s runtime is not the longest for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. That record will continue to belong to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame for the foreseeable future. The last Avengers movie of the Infinity Saga clocked in at 3 hours and 1 minute. As such, Avengers: Doomsday does not come close to topping it.

Still, the upcoming Avengers movie ranks higher than all three other entries in the crossover franchise. Avengers: Doomsday beats Infinity War’s 2 hours and 29 minutes, The Avengers’ 2 hours and 23 minutes, and Age of Ultron’s 2 hours and 21 minutes. In 2027, Marvel Studios will once again have a shot at Avengers: Endgame’s title with the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. Given how that movie is not only set to end the Multiverse Saga, but also reboot the MCU in some form, likely with several returning characters and multiverse cameos, it could end up as the longest Marvel movie to date.
