Official Final Fantasy 7 Prequel Starring Tifa & Aerith Confirmed For Next Year

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation may be releasing next spring, but another official FF7 release has already been confirmed. While expectations are pretty high for the finale to the FF7 Remake trilogy, fans of the original game will also be in for a treat. That’s because there’s a new prequel releasing in early 2027 that features fan-favorite characters (and love interests for Cloud) Tifa and Aerith. We’ve learned some additional details regarding FF7 Revelation thanks to its director, but for the most part, the biggest surprises are being kept under wraps. However, one pleasant surprise is that Tifa and Aerith will be getting a new prequel novel set before the main events in Final Fantasy 7, and it’s available to order right now.

Called Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Dear Destiny, this is a prequel novel that’s already available for preorder over on the official Square Enix Books store. The story primarily focuses on Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockhart leading up to the main narrative of FF7, but it also includes a story about Cloud’s time as a Shinra soldier. It also serves as the sequel to the Traces of Two Pasts novel. With an MSRP of $26.99 for the hardcover edition and $14.99 for digital, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Dear Destiny is also available for preorder from sites like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. It’s set to release in January 2027. It should make perfect reading ahead of FF7 Revealtion’s release a few months later.

Beyond a reveal trailer, which you can view above, Square Enix hasn’t shared a lot of additional details yet regarding Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Considering it’s the end of the remake trilogy, however, fans are understandably pumped. There’s no release date yet, but with a Spring 2027 release window, FF7 Revelation should be dropping additional details (and trailers) in the upcoming months.

In the meantime, a new novel that focuses on Tifa and Aerith is a cool way to learn more about the characters and the world of Gaia ahead of the final game’s launch. Both characters have been an integral part of FF7, going all the way back to the original game in the ’90s. They may have been love interests for Cloud, but fans quickly fell in love with them as well. That’s only ramped up more since the release of FF7 Remake and Rebirth, so it’ll be interesting to see what Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has in store for Cloud and company when it releases next year.
