Marvel Fans Divided On Beloved X-Men Character’s New Appearance

Miss out on a month or two of Marvel Rivals and you’ll have a lot of homework to do in order to be filled in and updated on new content. Each season introduces two new heroes, with seasons lasting two months, meaning that NetEase is working at breakneck speeds to pump out one new character per month in Marvel Rivals. Marvel Rivals’ X-Men characters have gotten increasingly out of hand, with the 6v6 hero shooter seemingly finding every opportunity it can to debut a new one. It does make sense that Marvel Rivals would want to lean on the X-Men to synergize with X-Men’97 Season 2 and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, of course, yet fans are feeling a bit bittersweet following the reveal of the X-Men character who’s arriving next in the live-service game.
Marvel Rivals’ Jubilee.
On Twitter/X, fans are conflicted about Jubilee debuting in Marvel Rivals Season 9. On the one hand, many fans are delighted that Jubilee has finally been added to the roster as a playable character. But, on the other hand, some fans are underwhelmed or disappointed in the default character design that Marvel Rivals went with for her.
Plenty of fans have made an argument that Marvel Rivals made Jubilee look too indistinguishable from Luna Snow in terms of her face and hair. Referring to a mock-up photo of Jubilee with shorter hair and slightly different facial features, user JAWRELIC writes, “This looks so much more like Jubilee. I’m so so tired of same face syndrome.” Meanwhile, BlakeOf616 wants a couple of minor changes that would go a long way in making Marvel Rivals’ Jubilee look that much more like her traditional, iconic self: “Please put the shades over her eyes and give her a skin with shorter hair.” As this user points out, even if fans aren’t in love with Jubilee’s default design, she’s bound to have a lofty wardrobe in the next little while with looks that they might appreciate more.
Marvel Rivals’ Season 9 Apocalypse lore serial gallery card.
Before Season 9 launched, users like dpsbutch were understandably confused as to why Jubilee has an ‘A’ on her belt and the pink-and-blue color palette that is commonly associated with Archangel. However, we had our answer well before today, thanks to artwork of Marvel Rivals’ Apocalypse in a room with four cloaked characters kneeling around him and one of those cloaked figures visibly blowing a bubblegum bubble: Jubilee is will be a Horseman in the game’s original continuity, as per the Season 9 event “Resurrection of the Horsemen.”
Not every character’s default design will be adored by everyone, and there’s bound to be skins for her that adhere more to her classic appearance (the fact that there hasn’t been an X-Men ’97-inspired skin revealed for her yet is rather alarming). That said, it will be neat to see what Jubilee’s future Marvel Rivals skins might look like, as well as whoever the next X-Men character to follow her onto the roster will be.
